Contemplation

This is the final version of my quilt. And it is named "Contemplation".  It is 27" x 33". It is the third in the series of my body of work. (The second piece is one I donated to the SAQA auction.)
Contemplation

I'm linking this to Off The Wall Friday
where you can visit other art quilt sites and please make comments to let the artists know you stopped by.

For those of you who haven't been following along or those who want a quick summary, here are quick links to the process of making it:
1.) Creating the background fabrics

2.) Placing the background fabric panels on the batting

3.) Sewing the fabrics in place

4.) Designing the composition

5.) Making fabric for the rocks

6.) Adding more texture to the background

7.) Quilt with not-so-nice shadows

  1. I like your colour palette and pebble stacks are a particular favourite of mine.

    1. The rock cairns do have so many meanings...reaching, striving, balancing, "I've been here", Earth, layers, time passing...

  3. Hi! Thanks for the comment on my blog regarding my "Stained Glass" fiber pieces. I saw on the SAQA forum that you are traveling next week and likely (depending on exactly where from Florida you are coming) will be driving through Columbia, South Carolina. Unfortunately, I'll be in New Mexico from Sept. 12 - 16th ... but if you are coming through before the 12th or returning after the 16th, let me know if you'd like to visit my studio. I'm one turn off the interstate ... literally ... one turn! If you are driving up from the Florida panhandle on I-85, however, there's a great fiber show at the Pickens County Museum of Art and History ... featuring several SAQA members but also some REALLY BIG NAME FIBER ARTISTS ... like Mary Edna Fraser who has had commissions from the Smithsonian and Joycelyn Chateauvert who is a Smithsonian Renwick Scholar and Jim Arendt who has won Best of Show in Fantastic Fibers and the top Artfields prize of $50,000. I'm truly honored to be in this show! More info is at: http://www.co.pickens.sc.us/CulturalCommission/CurrentEvents/default.aspx

  5. Hi, Regina. Your title fits this piece well (it beats "woman in brown staring at a stack of rocks"!). Lovely piece.
    best, nadia
