If you haven't followed my blog before, you can go back and see how I progressed on this piece here here, here, and here.
And here it is finished. The story is that the rocks fell from the moon into the river. There are eight rocks shown on the quilt. The river has eight eyes in it and that symbolizes the eight rocks peaking out of the river as they dance about in it.

The background fabric is indigo I dyed several years ago with my art group. Most of the rocks I gelatin monoprinted and then hand painted the veins, two of the rocks are from commercial cottons. the "tree" is a piece of commercial silk, the multi-colored strip across the bottom is commercial cotton, and the borders are commercial from Marcia Derse. I'm linking this to Off The Wall Friday where you can find other art quilt blogs. Please make comments on their posts to let them know you stopped by.
I don't take many classes or workshops, but I'm glad I took this one. I learned some new techniques, but most of all, I learned about storytelling. And to let go more in my work. Thanks for visiting.
Glad you had a great time with the class. Cute quilt. I love online classes!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the advice given and between the examples shown in the class and on her blog, there was plenty of inspiration. I've not been disappointed in any online classes yet, but this one was more than just technique.
DeleteI only took a bom at craftsy so I have no frame of reference. I think I would prefer classes in person. I like the wording, so fanciful. LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteI like classes in person, too. But online classes let you work at your own pace and revisit lessons over and over, which is helpful. This was a very fun quilt. Jude Hill specializes in story quilts and that rubbed off on me on this one.
Deletebeautiful, I've followed your progress and you did a wonderful job! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! It was a very enjoyable process.
DeleteLearning to let go it a great lesson! Glad you found a class you enjoyed. I like the resulting lively quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. I'll probably go back to the more peaceful looking quilts, but hope to have a more storytelling feel to them.
DeleteSo glad that you enjoyed hand work. I have found it has so expanded my options in creating. I love the story behind your piece and your execution of it! Feels like it was the perfect class for you.
